All of it all at once
Hello, good readers —
A month ago today, Turning Pointe was set loose into the world. I hope you’ve got your copy, and I hope you’ve found the stories in the book to be enraging, touching, galling, and full of possibility.
I’ve heard from lots of people in the last month that reading the book has been cathartic for them, that it’s helped them make sense of their experience in ballet, whatever that experience was. That’s an incredibly moving and humbling thing to hear, because there are books that have done that for me, and I feel such a deep affection and gratitude for those books and their authors. I’m glad I’ve been able to pay that service forward.
It’s been a big month in my house, not only because of Turning Pointe — which was released in the UK last week, by the way, and is now available at your local Waterstones and W. H. Smith. A few days after the book came out, I finished a revision of my next book, an overhaul of it, really.
You might remember that one day last year I mentioned I’d been reading a lot of romance novels, and wondered why there weren’t more romance novels set in the ballet world. Well, around that time, I started writing one. And once I started, I found I didn’t want to stop. So now it’s written, and has been rewritten, and my hope is that soon it will find a publisher and you can all read it.
These missives will become a little more sporadic in the next little while - and I encourage you to adjust your subscriptions accordingly - but if you’d like to stick around for what I hope will be a fiction publishing adventure, please do.
And then of course, there’s the cutest, fluffiest, and most photogenic development in my life in the last month, Zelda.
We brought Zelda home 11 days after the book came out, and most of the days since have been devoted to house training, zoomies, and snuggles. She’s only been here a few weeks but the house already feels empty when she’s not in it. To be fair, the house also feels cleaner when she’s not in it.
I want to remind you that the Turning Pointe party isn’t over — in fact, it’s just getting started. I’m doing free virtual events at dance schools all summer and into the fall, and if you know a dance school that would benefit from bringing me in to talk to advanced ballet students and/or their parents, you can learn more about how to do that right here.
That’s all for now. Thanks, as always, for reading.
Chloe.
